John C Odom And The Trade Of Maple Bats

John C Odom who had the Tommy John Surgery and who was a baseball pitcher, died on Nov 5, 2008 at the age of 26 years. His death was caused by an accidental overdose from heroin, methamphetamine, benzylpiperazine and alcohol.

John Odom had an injured right elbow and also had a surgery in 2005 and this surgery was called as Tommy John Surgery. In the Tommy John Surgery a ligament was replaced. John Odom was healed and he also got a tattoo on the scar caused from the surgery. His tattoo was in Latin and it read as “poena par sapientia” which meant "Pain Equals Wisdom."

John Odom was traded for 10 bats in 2008, which costs about $665 in value. Odom might have felt terrible but he never revealed about it. John Odom visibly appeared cheerful, playing along with the publicity that was overestimated by the deal called “John Odom Trade Bat”. Six months later, Odom was dead from drug overdose.

Dan Shwam who was the manager of John Odom on the Laredo Broncos of the United League last year said "I guarantee this trade thing really bothered him. That really worried me". "I really believe, knowing his background, that this drove him back to the bottle, that it put him on the road to drugs again."
